Baccarat has a reputation for being a high rollers game and the tables are normally separate from the rest of the casino in there own section called the pit. Dealers normally wear tuxedos and the surrounding are is quite lavish. The table layout is quite simple and consists of fourteen numbered positions seven on each side of the dealer; the number thirteen is omitted as it is considered unlucky. Three dealers run the game and one of these is the caller who runs the game and stands between positions 1 and 15. All picture cards count as 10 and aces count as 1. Player and dealer are both dealt two cards to start with, if either of them has a two card total of 8 or 9 then they must immediately turn over the cards. A 9 is the best hand and beats all other totals followed by 8, if both the dealer and the player has an 8 or 9 the hand is tied and no money changes hands. If either you or the dealer has a 6 or 7 then you must stand if you stand on a 6 or 7 then the dealer must hit on a score of less than 5. If the dealer has 0 then he must draw. If the dealer has 3 then he must draw if your card is a 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-9. If the dealer has 7 then he must stand. If the dealer has 8 then he must stand.

Baccarat is a game of pure luck. Baccarat systems are few and far between. You may have heard of the 1 - 3 - 2 - 6 baccarat system. With this approach you keep track of what you bet over the course of four hands. The objective of course is to bet a little with the potential for a larger return.

  • First, bet one unit. If you win add another, making the second bet a total of three units.
  • If you win the second bet there are six units on the table. Remove four, making the third bet two units.
  • If the third bet wins, add two more units for a total of six on the fourth bet.
  • If the fourth bet wins, you collect a total of 12 units, ten of pure profit. If you win the first bet but lose the second, that's two units you've lost. If you win the second bet but lose the third bet, your profit is two units. If you lose the second bet five out of six times, and then win four consecutive bets once, you break even. The same system will work for any casino game that pays out even-money. To even out the odds the house charges a commission (usually 5%) on winning player bets placed on the house. This assumes the commission is the usual 5%, should the commission change then you have to change strategy.
